If you have never visited the Merc, there is no better time than the upcoming Draper Days! The 1st Annual Draper Days at Draper Mercantile Villages is an all day event celebrating local artists, music, a farmer's market, bake off, bike tours, and BBQ! In anticipation of Draper Days, Barb, Thom, and I made the trek down to Draper to meet with Draper Merc's brand new marketing director, Deb. While we were there, we grabbed lunch, enjoyed live music, and learned all about the exciting happenings coming up this summer... all on a Tuesday afternoon!
We all settled in at the Blue Door Cafe for Merc Burgers (pictured above) and the sounds of a visiting musician from Nashville. The Merc was bustling with activity and anticipation for the upcoming events taking place this summer! Deb gave us the dish on all things Draper Days! The First Annual Draper Days will be held on Saturday, June 3rd. It is an all day event celebrating all aspects of what makes Draper Mercantile magical. Food, music, shopping, and more will all kick off at 10AM. The Draper Mercantile Villages would like to invite all to the event.
Festivities will kick off for Draper Days with the Draper Bake Off Contest! Face off with your best cake, pie, cookie, dessert, muffins, and more! Entries will be accepted between 9:00 and 10:30AM on the day of the event. You must enter 2 of each submission for judging and photography!
After our wonderful lunch, Deb gave us a sneek peek of the newly reopened Junction. The Junction is conveniently located at the cross section of the Trans-America Route 76 bike route, Virginia Mountain Bike Trail and The New River Trail. The Junction is your hub for biking accessories and rentals, goodies for your furry friends, toys, outdoor clothing, and accessories. The Junction is also your stop for healthy snacks to refuel from your fun filled at the Merc! During Draper Days, The Junction will be offering guided bike tours with Misty Wright Gregg of Wheelie Fun 101 Bike Tours. Journey 10 miles down the New River to the New River Retreat property Manataka for special treats. Reservations are strongly suggested for these excursions.
After Deb left us to continue preparations for all of the fun things happening this summer, Barb and I wandered through the Village Shoppes. There is truly something for everyone from local and international artisans, books, children's toys, and more. Draper Village Shoppes is a medley of unique gifts and unusual finds! Both the Village Shoppes and Draper Blooms will be open with special Draper Days Deals!
Finally it was time for us to make the short trek back to Wytheville! It's always a delight to visit our friends at Draper Mercantile Villages. We are so excited for Draper Days on Saturday, June 3rd! We hope you will join us at the Merc on Greenbriar Road in Draper, VA. We will be live with Nick and Thom from 2-4PM on 95.3FM WXBX from festivities. Come visit celebrity chef, Chef T for a Summer BBQ at the Blue Door Cafe, and stick around until 7PM for local artist Eric Gress as he takes the stage!
