On the Road: Pulaski Yankees

Now I’m not sure if you’ve heard but there was a bear sighting in Pulaski recently. It was spotted on Motor Mile Field in Calfee Park which is the home to the New York Yankees minor league affiliate, the Pulaski Yankees. Now according to the picture that I saw of this bear he was heading towards second base but in the wrong direction. So I decided to go to Calfee Park myself and watch for this bear so I could catch him and make him my new friend. I’m assuming that a live bear cub is just as cute and cuddly as a Teddy Bear so this sounded like a great idea to me. I went and sat along the third base line so if the cub ran the wrong way towards second base again I could sneak up on him and catch him.

Unfortunately my inner child does not have much of an attention span and he tends to be in the driver’s seat most often. So after sitting and waiting and watching for another bear sighting I began to get hungry and went to the concessions stand. Sadly, the concession stand is waiting for Opening Day.

My inner child began having flashbacks to the days when I played minor league baseball….well little league baseball where we were a league full of minors. Anyway, I wandered around and took some pics of this beautiful facility such as their VIP seating up on this tower. Yes that is a ceiling fan over each VIP section. Very nice!

Then I ended up sneaking into the clubhouse and had some fun.

It was then I realized I couldn’t see my soon to be new friend if I was inside. So I resumed my post watching for my little friend. I had a great view of the field from where I was sitting. But then again I could have been sitting anywhere in the stands at Calfee Park and make that statement!

Finally good fortune smiled on me and my new little friend (to be) came back to run the bases again, still in the wrong direction. So I caught him. The beginning to our new relationship was a little rough but my doctor feels like I should make a full recovery. You should meet his mom though! Delightful lady! Very strong! Big teeth (but don’t tell her I said that!)

After the cub and I talked I discovered that he was looking for Cubs training camp. He was a little embarrassed when I told him that this was the home of the Pulaski Yankees and not the Cubs. I helped him get on a bus heading towards Cubs training camp and he was very thankful for my help and wished me a full and speedy recovery. I told him I had 30 days to heal before Opening Day on Thursday, June 23rd against the Danville Braves and that’s when all of the fun begins! Best of luck to you my little bear cub buddy and Mrs. Bear! Make plans now to watch the Pulaski Yankees open their season with some family fun at the ball park when the gates open at 5:30 PM on Thursday, June 23rd!
